Small Business Gifting

small business gift- Imagine this. You suddenly decide on a career change in your 40s.  You’ve known nothing else for these years while you perfected your 9-5 but now during the lock-down, you had something inside of you telling you to try something new that will make both you and your customers happy and need to take a leap of faith for this one.

You tell your friends and family, and you don’t exactly get the support you were looking for and people are starting to fill your head with doubts rather than encouragement, but you get ready for the next day anyways.

Ready to take on trying to promote and sell your amazing products to your people, someone knocks on the door, and it’s a delivery truck. Someone sent you a vibrant bouquet of beautifully arranged flowers with a note that says

“Keep going love, don’t give up!”.

It makes you tear up a bit and anytime throughout the rest of the week whenever you feel a little down, you look over at those flowers and remember “I can do this, and people I love support me and believe in me”.

Why gift flowers to a small business?

In this time of COVID, a lot of people have decided to follow their dreams, find their passion, and open a small business.  This means high levels of stress, long hours, and a lot of creativity.  How do you tell someone how proud you are of them? How filled of joy you are that they are going after what they always wanted in their life and that shows them how much you support them on their journey?  That’s right, flowers!

5 Things as Easy to Pick Out as Flowers

Easy to Pick Out as Flowers

Picture this. You’re standing before a tapestry of loud, bursting colors. You’re looking at one bright, confusing blur. Everything smells like the colors pink and green.

It’s your anniversary. What are you supposed to get? Where do you even begin?

Take in a deep breath, count to five, and remember: You’ve done this before. You’re an expert at picking things out of flowers. Just think of all the times you’ve been a successful picker-outer:

Tools

A box wrench has a nice grip but is unsuitable in a tight space. An open-ended wrench is quick to use, but too specialized. An adjustable wrench is great for both loosening and tightening, and keeps the stress off the screw.

With flowers, you also want a happy medium. Not too big, not too small, and if you can help it, right about to break open and bloom. Flowers on the peak die sooner, flowers too closed might not bloom in time.

Used Cars

Research helped you figure out if the better deal was that 1998 Mazda Sedan or that 2001 Ford Escort for your teenager. But what helped you talk them down to a reasonable price was the confidence you had walking in.

Trust in yourself when you see that Blowsy ranunculus that reminds you of your wife’s favorite decorative pillow.

Barbecue

You know bad pork when you see it. If you can’t smell the smoker, don’t even dine. Over-saucing is under-professional. Vinegar beats tomato and sugar.

Likewise, you know what fresh flowers look like. You know what they smell and feel like. If you care, you’ll pay attention.

Sports Teams

While others might pull for the Rockets or the Spurs, maybe you’ve always been a die hard Magic fan, good season or bad.

Don’t just hop on the bandwagon. Roses are playing it safe. But if you heard your wife say fifteen times she’s madly in love with Baby’s Breath, maybe it’s time to support the underdog.

A Good Woman

You remember the day you first met her. You remember the day you figured out she was the one. Between that time, you were figuring out what made her the best option. (She was doing the same.)

Some reasons can’t be put into words. A part of you went with your gut (And I don’t mean the stomach). You just knew—in part because you’d been searching for so long.

When it comes to flowers, have faith in yourself. You’ve played this game. With a little help from a professional, you’ll know you made the right choice. You’ve got this.

Start your day with the fresh and beautiful flowers-

Love and Romance

Love and Romance

Love and Romance- You know that feeling when you look into your partner’s eyes and you get lost in the ocean of beauty that is them? The two stars that they have for eyes that make every problem disappear at the moment and you become enveloped in complete calm and safety as they wrap their arms around you to pull you close for a hug. Sometimes you’re at work and that’s all you can think of; their smile, the way they hug you,

and just the way you become so overwhelmed with the amount of love you feel anytime you’re around them.

You just count down the minutes until the workday is done so you can call them and hear their voice and think of what to do to show this beautiful and amazing human just how much you love them.  So what do you do?

There are so many good options out there to express how much you love your person. You can cook them dinner, have a unique date night such as a paint night, or stargaze in the backyard.

or even cozy up and watch the new Spiderman Movie! But sometimes, you want to do something in between that step, a little extra nudge to show your person the love they deserve, and what better way to do that than to bring flowers to them?

Why flowers?

Flowers are a timeless symbol of romance and appreciation for the person you love and will give a constant reminder for a few weeks of how much you love them!

What if you’re long-distance?

The great part about flowers is that you can set up a long-distance flower delivery so you can send them a text of 2D flowers and then surprise them with the real thing!

What type of flowers should you give?

Red roses are always the classic flower for romance but there are others you can send!  Start with their favorite flower and if they don’t have a preference then move on to one of these.   Along with roses, you can send them Tulips, Daisies, Orchids, Gerbera Daisies, or Hydrangeas.  All these flowers will be well received in deep red, pastels, or any soft shades of blue.

Can I buy flowers for a guy?

Absolutely! Which human wouldn’t love a single rose or even a dozen of fresh flowers of which their vibrant

and charming colors and shape remind you of your partner’s amazing and lovable personality!

Express your love by giving these fresh and beautiful flowers to your loved one-

How to Price Bouquet

Calculating How to Price Bouquet?

Calculating How to Price Bouquet?

How much do you charge for materials?

For flowers and greens, the industry charges an average 3.5% markup - that is, 3.5 times the wholesale cost of each stem, or per full bunch. So if you have a rose that costs you $1, the retail cost is $3.50; a full dozen roses, we’ll say priced wholesale at $12, would be $42.

For non-organic supplies, the markup is 2%. These supplies include tape, wire, ribbon, bouquet holders, et cetera - anything other than flowers and greens. If the cost of materials to make a bouquet is $6, then retail cost would be $12.

How much do you charge for labor?

This can be a tough question. The labor charge can vary depending on your level of expertise, how long you’ve been in the business, your location, and type of business, and even the time and effort it takes to create certain designs. I’ve seen labor costs range anywhere from 12% to 35% of the retail cost, but the average seems to be 20-30%.

To calculate: (retail cost of flowers + retail cost of materials) x labor cost % = labor cost.

Using that same full rose bouquet from earlier, and the same amount of materials, and using 20% markup for labor we have:

(42+12) x 20%

54 x 20%

$10.80 for labor.

Putting it all together

To figure the total cost of our dozen rose bouquets, we add each of our values together:

Retail cost of flowers + retail cost of materials + labor cost = total

42 + 12 + 10.80

$64.80 is the price we would give for the client!

WHAT ARE THE BEST PLANTS FOR HOUSEWARMING?

WHAT ARE THE BEST PLANTS FOR HOUSEWARMING?

WHAT ARE THE BEST PLANTS FOR HOUSEWARMING?

Moving into a new home is always an adventurous experience, so naturally you will have people to come over and celebrate your newfound nest. Just as a nest is composed of various, handpicked materials, you can strategically place certain flowers throughout your home. What better way to paint your own personality into your home than orchestrating it into a floral arrangement? The best part is, you'll never get tire of caring for each flower!

From the get-go, the Maranta Red Plant-also known as the Prayer Plant-would be the first choice for your new home. It comes from Brazil and was name the Prayer Plant after an Italian Botanist who saw that the leaves are flat during the day, but they fold up like praying hands at nighttime. These are some of the best indoor plants to have because they're lowkey enough to spruce up your walls or countertops, but are beautiful enough to not be disregard as shrubbery.

CARE:

Taking care of these plants is not that hard. All you need is a pot with a well drainage system, so when you water them the excess water can drain out by itself and the plant can absorb the amount needed. For the soil, you can make your own or buy a potting mix that is easily available almost anywhere .

During the initial growing stage of your plant it needs water frequently. Always check the soil before you water them again. Letting it dry out completely or leaving the soil moist can damage your plant.

House plants mostly need indirect sunlight, so place them in a corner where there is shade and indirect sunlight as well. Leaving your plant in direct sunlight can damage the leaves and fade the color and eventually the plant will burn from heat and turn brown. Fertilizing your plant also plays a great role in keeping your plant healthy and happy.

5 Reasons Why Flowers Go Perfect With Birthday Gifts

Why Flowers Go Perfect With Birthday Gifts:

Birthdays are a difficult flower occasion. Not romantic enough for something gushy. Festive, but not seasonal.

Even when you find a gift you’re confident about, remorse hits. Did she really want this Cookie Monster Snuggie? That iPhone bedazzled with sparkles? The set of steak knives that you really wanted?

Choosing flowers as a pairing with any birthday gift can help set you on the path toward successful birthday gifting. We’ve laid out five good reasons to get her flowers on her birthday alongside any present

5 Reasons Why Flowers Go Perfect With Birthday Gifts:

Flowers Embody Life

You’re celebrating the day she came into this world. It’s another year of being alive. It makes perfect sense to give her something living. And you can only get her so many puppies.

She Will Outlive the Flowers

Women hate being asked their age for a reason: The question reminds them of how old—not how young—they are. Women are vain—they love to see something dwindle and perish long before they do, especially on one of the worst days of the year. She is young and beautiful after all. And you just proved it.

Flowers are a Flourish

When she took you out for your birthday and you ordered that steak dinner, you might not have paid any attention to that carefully placed garnish on the plate. But your brain did. The same goes for flowers, which add that extra flourish to any presentation. They don’t have to be the centerpiece, but they can make it loud.

Flowers are a Backup

Say she doesn’t want a pair of toe socks. Or a goldfish. Or a helmet so she can ride on the back of your motorcycle. It’s a good thing you had that bundle of peonies behind your back.

Flowers Remind Others It’s Her Birthday

Flowers don’t have to arrive at home. They can be delivered straight to her workplace. Such a public display of affection can remind her boss that he still has eight hours to send someone to go pick up a cake.

On her birthday, earn toms style points. Show that extra level of care. Go the extra mile and get her a bouquet to pair with the present like sweet wine with a delicious dish.

Give these beautiful birthday gift to your loved ones and express heartfelt feelings of love.

daisies flower

Flower Spotlight: Delightful Daisies

What do daisies symbolize and how did they get their name?

Freya, the Norse goddess of love, beauty, and fertility cherished the daisy as her sacred flower, so as time passed, this flower came to symbolize new beginnings. They are some of the first flowers to bloom in spring, as early as April, the month they represent. It may come as a surprise to many that the English version of the name originated by the mashing of the words “day’s eye”,

due to the outer petals of the flower closing in around its center when night falls. It is from this peculiarity that the expression “fresh as a daisy” comes from:

when someone has a good night’s rest, the next morning they are as lively and cheerful as a daisy.

What kinds of daisies are there?

The flower diameter of a daisy is typically around 3 to 5 inches, about half the size of their larger cousins, the sunflower, who they resemble in shape and composition. Surrounding the disk at the center of the flower, you will first find the disk floret, composed of hundreds of tiny petals,

usually the same color as the larger petals of the ray floret that crown the flower.  Most varieties of daisies are native to South America, Asia, and Africa,

but they have since adapted to virtually every climate. Today, they are one of the most widely sold cut flowers in the world. The popular varieties of daisies include:

  • Shasta daisy: these have a yellow center with pristine white petals. These are the ones you picture on a meadow on a hot summer day
  • Gerbera daisy or the African Daisy: this variety has a darker center and it can produce petals in bright tones yellow, orange, red, and purple.
  • Barberton daisy: like the gerbera daisy, grows to produce radiant petals of different colors. It usually has a smaller disc, and it can sometimes produce pointed petals instead of rounded ones.

When is it most appropriate to give daisies?

The innocence and purity of children are best captured by a daisy, this is why it is one of the most common flowers to give to new mothers after childbirth. so As a perennial garden plant, they work wonders too, attracting butterflies and birds,

thereby creating a rich natural environment for children to grow up in. For less fortunate days, they can be brew into a tea to help relieve coughs and inflammations. Their leaves, rich in vitamin C, can even be add to salads for a nutritious meal.Flower Spotlight

gladiolus flower

Flower Spotlight: Glamorous Gladiolus

Flower Spotlight: Glamorous Gladiolus-

Picture this: you’re in the amphitheater of Rome’s Colosseum in its heyday. Looking up, you see the crowd cheering in an uncontrollable frenzy. After intense battles, you’re the last one standing. Members of the audience throw at you, with all their might, spear-shaped flowers of every color. You collect a few and thrust them into the air in victory. Yours is the right to live another day.

How did gladiolus get their name?

As you might have already guessed, these flowers were gladiolus, more commonly known as “sword lilies” although this vernacular name can be a little misleading. They actually belong to the iris family. They got their name from the Latin gladius, meaning sword. Given their long and imposing shape, and their close ties with history’s fiercest warriors, these perennial flowers symbolize courage, strength, and pride.

Southern and tropical Africa is the native home of the gladiolus, and where the most diversity in the cultivars can be found. Nevertheless, there are varieties that have successfully adapted to the natural terrain of the Mediterranean and of south-east Asia, where they can be found in the wild.

Can gladiolus be kept as garden flowers?

Emerging from their underground corm, gladiola plants produce one to nine non-branched sword-shaped leaves that guard at its center spikes that unilaterally produce gorgeous 3 inch funnel-shaped flowers of varying colors, ranging from white to orange or purple; plain or with special patterns or markings. But don’t be fool by their beauty. These flowers are low maintenance, requiring only a few hours of sunlight, and their soil remains moist during the growing season. They are extremely hardy: some varieties are resistant to rough winters of up to -15 degrees. If you decide to dig up the gladiolus corms just to be on the safe side, do so in the autumn after the leaves have died out, and replant them in the early spring for best results.

The corms produce smaller cormlets over time. Occasionally, divide these clumps while the corm is dormant to keep the plants vigorous. The smaller corms can be plant the following season, but it may take a while for them to reach maturity and start producing flowers.

What about gladiolus as cut-flowers?

They also make impressive cut-flowers for centerpieces or elegant bouquets when paired with dahlias and peonies, but a word of warning: they can be toxic to your dog, cat, or horse companions.

Creating a Bouquet

Creating a Bouquet for Any Occasion: An Introduction

What are some different bouquet styles?

There’s a bouquet style for everyone and for every kind of event! You can generally separate bouquets into two separate groups - presentation bouquets, which you often see given to winners and runners-up or performers, and hand-held bouquets, which are what you usually picture when you think of weddings. Presentation bouquets tend to run along the same lines,

but hand-held bouquets carry a much wider range in design and size! Several of the more popular and most commonly used forms of hand-held are hand-tied bouquets, cascade bouquets, and round bouquets.

What materials are need?

To craft any kind of bouquet, you need a sharp pair of floral snips or a floral knife, rubber-bands, and a bucket with water - as well as your flowers and greens! Here’s a nice assortment of roses to get you to start: https://nbuflowers.com/products/100-assorted-roses-beautiful-fresh-flowers-4-different-colors-delivery-saturday-july-3

Other materials depend on what you’re going for and what you’re working with. For example, a presentation bouquet is often wrappe in tissue paper and/or cellophane, and you might want a ribbon or burlap to wrap stems in. Do you need some floral wire or floral tape to help shape or reinforce some stems? Hot glue nicely secures slippery fabrics like satin, and if you like a more contemporary look, you can also feature unique accessories like buttons or wire or jewels. Bouquet holders can be useful, particularly when you’re building more complicated designs or are new to floral arranging: https://nbuflowers.com/products/oasis-wedding-belle-box-of-6-bouquet-holders-large-clear-straight-handle

What are some basic guidelines for forming a bouquet?

To form any bouquet, you need to first prep your flowers and greenery. Strip all foliage that won’t be seen off the stems, and de-thorn if you need to - no one likes getting stabbed. Keep any items you aren’t immediately working within water to help keep them in good condition.

Another general rule is to work with the natural direction of your materials. If your flowers and greens are incline to bend a certain way, it’s much easier to incorporate that natural flow than it is to fight against it. In a pinch, some manual shaping can be done with floral wire on sturdier stems. Creating a Bouquet of nice flowers.

Once you have your bouquet put together, remember to trim all stems to the same length!
